Actor, playwright, and director Sello Maake kaNcube has been in the creative industry for over 40 years. In this episode of The Lead Creative Podcast, he shares his secrets to longevity, including his work on the soapie Generations as Archie Moroka.
His work on Generations has had a lasting impact on South African culture. The character of Archie Moroka is still remembered and loved by many, and Sello’s performance is considered to be one of the best in the history of the soap opera.
One of the most important things Sello has learned is the importance of constant self-assessment. He says, “You have to be on a journey of constantly evaluating your work and looking for ways to improve.”
He also stresses the importance of staying true to yourself and your art. “Don’t try to be someone you’re not,” he says. “The world needs your unique perspective.”
Sello also talks about how social media has changed the game for marketing theatre. He says that it has made it possible to reach a wider audience and connect with fans in a more personal way.
